The Lee County Courthouse was the site of Mississippi Slim’s Saturday Jamboree, broadcast live over WELO radio. Elvis would befriend Slim (who also was James Ausborn’s older brother) and get him to teach him some more chords on the guitar. Slim encouraged the boy to come be on his show. The first time Elvis backed out at the last moment – the only time he has been known to back down from singing, but with Slim’s encouragement he performed on the show at least three times.
Listen to Slim sing and imagine a young Elvis listening.
Black circle in center of block is the Lee County Courthouse.
