Veteran’s Park & Aquatic Center

Elvis entered the U.S. Army at the height of his rise to fame.  He wanted to be treated just like the other soldiers – no special treatment.  The Tupelo Elvis Fan Club recognized his service to our country with a brick in Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Elvis had planned for the Elvis Presley Park to have a guitar shaped swimming pool.  It did have an L shaped pool and a youth center for many years, but after his death and visitors increased to the complex, the pool was filled in and the youth center converted to what is now the museum.  When the Tupelo Elvis Fan Club heard the Tupelo Aquatic Center would be built at Veteran’s Park, the club pledged a $130,000 contribution to be paid over ten years.  The goal of the club was to have Elvis’ name and image associated with the new venue.
